New Year: New Ways to Learn with CREE

by | Jan 15, 2020

Happy New Year (and decade), everyone!

If you’ve been following along with the CREE blog since back in the day, this isn’t our first introduction. I’m Anissa, and I previously worked for CREE as the marketing communications intern during my undergraduate studies. As an intern, I wrote many blogs related to new- and social-media marketing. One specific blog I wrote was marketing trends to expect in the new year of 2017.

This was taken on the University of Florida campus, while I worked with co-founder Dr. Lauri Baker. Go Gators!

So, fast forward three years, and I’m back with the CREE crew. It seems only fitting that I write another ‘new year’ themed blog as my re-introduction into the community.

This go around, I am serving as a research and marketing associate, and I’m excited as ever to work with the team to fulfill our mission of helping rural and agriculture-based businesses flourish!

In this blog, you can expect to find:

  • A brief tidbit about me and my duties with CREE
  • Exciting things to come from CREE in the new year
  • Updates and info about Insight Summit (next month!)

First things first, as I previously said, I’m Anissa. I recently graduated from Kansas State University with my master of science degree in agricultural education and communication, and following this, I accepted a position with CREE. In this role, I’ve been able to do some of my favorite things and work with my favorite people, which includes writing and editing manuscripts for journals, analyzing and interpreting data for conferences, contributing video content to our online learning resource, building audience profiles, developing our social-media platforms, and gaining insight into the grant-writing process.

I am a living testament to the CREE mission. I work with all three partnering institutions: Kansas State University, University of Minnesota, and University of Florida, but I am officially an employee of the University of Florida. However, I work remotely in rural Kansas, which allows me to be close to my family and their rural community business.

When I’m not working, I enjoy reading and cooking, and more importantly eating, yummy food. I also enjoy being outside with my two favorite dogs. If you know me at all, you know I’ll find a way to sneak dog pictures into my content.

Now that we’ve been reintroduced, I’m excited to share new things on the horizon for CREE. In the coming year, you can expect to find research content presented in innovative ways. This year we plan to introduce CREE YouTube videos that provide tangible and practical steps taken directly from research-based knowledge to improve your businesses. Prefer to read rather than watch a video? No worries, we also plan to create blogs with the information as well that will be available on our learning resource. Stay in touch with us via our Facebook page, where we will share links to our learning resource and YouTube channel.

Finally, I’d like to wrap up with some timely information regarding Insight Summit.

The details:

  • WHEN: February 20 & 21, 2020
  • WHERE: Cargill Building on the University of Minnesota campus in St. Paul
  • WHAT: This Insight Summit will have a greater emphasis on measuring and reporting impact using Facebook analytic data. Topics related to new-media marketing include storytelling across platforms, basic and advanced analytics, social-media strategy, visual content, e-newsletters, and selling online.

I don’t know about you, but with the arrival of the new year, I was ready to establish some new goals. If you have considered making improvements to your marketing results this year, take the plunge and join us at Insight Summit.

By attending (in person or virtually), you are investing in your business. The tools and tactics you walk away with from this conference can generate more value than cost. It is an investment rather than an expense. Together, we can get your business on the fast-track for new-media marketing success. Let’s hit those big goals this year!
