Social Media Marketing in Agriculture

Small, agricultural businesses often struggle with the challenges of marketing successfully. This webinar shares the results of a nationwide survey conducted in Fall 2015 to understand the current state of green-industry marketing, particularly as it relates to new-media marketing efforts. Businesses based in rural areas, particularly those that interact directly with consumers, will benefit from learning how the green industry is making use of these new tools.

The presenters offer implications for other small, rural businesses. The major findings from the study indicate business that make less than $250,000 a year are operating differently related to marketing efforts than those who make more than that a year. More businesses are using Facebook than websites. Business are using social media for marketing, selling, and educating, but not necessarily to learn about customers’ preferences. The implications of this research indicate a need to increase relationship marketing and understanding of customers’ needs and wants. The team offers tips to help small, rural businesses implement a stronger social-media strategy.
