Irving, Texas — CREE co-founders, fellows, post-docs and graduate students recently traveled to Irving, Texas to present recent research projects.
From January 30 – February 4, 2025, the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists (SAAS) annual meeting brought together scientists from various agricultural disciplines. CREE research was represented in two sections of SAAS: the National Agricultural Communications Symposium (NACS) and Horticultural Science. CREE fellow, Audrey King, served as the president of NACS Executive Team for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Our CREE team presented a total of five papers and five posters on topics ranging from perceptions of the bird flu to best management practices (BMPs). At the conclusion of the conference, multiple CREE researchers were recognized for the quality of their work.

First Runner-up Outstanding Paper
Agricultural education and communication post-doc, Cheng-Xian Yang, was awarded First Runner-up Outstanding Paper for his paper titled The Cost of Innovation: Exploring Americans’ Perspectives of AI-Assisted Food Traceability and the Food Traceability Final Rule. Other authors included Lauri M. Baker and Li-Yu Liao.
First Runner-up Outstanding Research Poster
Dorcas Sunday, Agricultural education and communication graduate student, received First Runner-Up Outstanding Research Poster for her research poster: Media Sensationalism: An Analysis of Risk Perception and Communication Dynamics in the Context of an Avian Flu Outbreak. Other authors included Lauri M. Baker and Heather Young.

Outstanding Innovative Poster
Cheng-Xian Yang, Agricultural education and communication post-doc student, also received Outstanding Innovative Poster for his innovative poster: The “Right” Word is Worth 1,000 More: Google Trends for Science Communication. His co-author was Lauri M. Baker.
